Jenny Berse, Esq.

My practice is dedicated to Family Law. I have or had family matter cases in most counties of New Jersey including: Bergen, Essex, Union, Somerset, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Ocean, Hudson, Hunterdon, Sussex, Burlington, Gloucester, Mercer, Passaic and Warren counties. The vast majority of my clients are referrals from current or past clients, other attorneys, therapists and even referrals from former spouses of my past clients.

I graduated from New York Law School, and was admitted to the practice of law in New Jersey in 2004. I graduated from New York University (NYU) in 1983 with a B.S. in Accounting. I worked as an auditor for Arthur Andersen in NYC and as the vice president of finance for a real estate syndication company. I have had extensive experience working in real estate, with financial matters, and also as a Realtor.
I am an active ESP Panelist in Essex County. In 2011, I completed both the Mediation for Family Law Training and the Collaborative Law Training, and I am a member of NJAPM – New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. I am also a member of the AFCC, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.

I am a member of: the New Jersey State Bar Association, Family Law Section, Dispute Resolution Section, Women in the Profession Section, Solo Section, and LGBT Section, and I have attended the 2007 to 2020 annual conventions and all of the family law seminars that are held during these conventions; the New Jersey Association for Justice (NJAJ); the Union County Bar Association; the Essex County Bar Association; the Middlesex County Bar Association; the American Bar Association; New Jersey Women Lawyers Association; the AFCC – Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, New Jersey Chapter; the NJAPM; and the Barry Croland Family Law Inn of Court; I was a member of the Justice Virginia Long Family Law Inn of Court; the Ocean-Monmouth Family Law Inn of Court, the Richard J. Hughes American Inn of Court, and the Ocean County Bar Association; I have completed the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender program of Essential Skills for Conflicts Attorneys; I have completed training for Partners for Women and Justice and was a pro bono attorney for them.

My practice is entirely devoted to the practice of family law. I have completed over 550 continuing education classes, including ICLE, Gann Law, and NJAJ programs.

​​ Jenny and Sam Berse have published their first 2 articles of a 3-part series in the NJSBA’s New Jersey Family Lawyer magazine: “Bankruptcy and Divorce: Exceptions to Dischargeability” appeared in the February 2020 edition; “Bankruptcy and Divorce Getting Counsel Fees Added to Probation Arrears” appeared in the March 2020 edition; and part 3 is forthcoming. We have additional forthcoming publications.

Jenny and Sam Berse have been selected by the readers of New Jersey Family as two of New Jersey’s Best Lawyers for Families and are featured in the April 2020 issue and will be featured in the April 2021 issue.

On June 9, 2020, Berse Law prevailed in the published Family Part opinion C.N. v. S.R., FD-13-928-19, where the court held that, in the absence of a writing, partition of a residence remains an equitable remedy among unmarried, cohabitating intimates engaged in a joint venture.

Also on October 12, 2021 Berse Law prevailed in the Appellate Division opinion K.A. v. C.E. where the Appellate Division Affirmed the family court Order granting Probation wage garnishment for child’s college tuition.
